Overview of the Church
St. Basil’s Syriac Orthodox Church serves as a vital spiritual and cultural hub for the Malankara Syriac Orthodox community in the Greater Cleveland area. As a parish under the Malankara Archdiocese of the Syrian Orthodox Church in North America, its primary service to the community lies in preserving the rich liturgical traditions of the West Syriac Rite and providing a supportive home for immigrant families and Jacobite Christians. While it does not operate the large-scale food pantries or festivals often associated with the nearby Catholic and Greek Orthodox churches of the same name, the congregation—led by Rev. Fr. Movin Varghese—engages in service through spiritual ministries, youth education, and participation in broader archdiocesan charitable initiatives that support relief efforts and the needy both locally and abroad.
Community Engagement and Involvement
Our website/Facebook page will include dedicated sections that detail upcoming events, services, and volunteer opportunities at the church. Emphasizing community activities will foster a stronger bond among our members and encourage new visitors. A user-friendly donation page via PayPal will also be established to facilitate contributions, supporting various church initiatives. Additionally, information regarding the Patriarch and Archbishop will be provided, connecting the congregation to their leadership.
